SILVER GREEN, STEEPLE and BLUE CASTLE lost one length. PETISCOS CHOOK and LANSON were slow into stride. VERY VARY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. KIMBERLEY, hanging in, shifted in at approximately the 200 metre mark, carrying VERY VARY inwards for a number of strides resulting in VERY VARY being inconvenienced on the inside of KIMBERLEY. ESCOVITCH was hanging in badly over the final 500 metres and shifted in despite Jockey Zechner's attempts to maintain a straight course, making contact with and unbalancing KIMBERLEY approaching the 100 metre mark. This in turn resulted in KIMBERLEY making contact with VERY VARY who was severely unbalanced on the inside running rail. A race review was called by a Stipendiary Steward with regard to the above incident which was followed by an objection lodged by Jockey van Niekerk, the rider of the third placed horse KIMBERLEY, against the second placed horse ESCOVITCH on the grounds of interference in the latter stages. After considering the evidence presented, viewing the patrol videos, and considering the distance of an extending neck at the finish, the Board over-ruled the Objection and the deposit was refunded. STEEPLE, PETISCOS CHOOK and LANSON were not persevered with in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. Vet: STEEPLE - not striding out right fore. PETISCOS CHOOK and LANSON - nothing obvious detected. ESCOVITCH - abnormal respiratory noise. CHICAGO BEAT - coughing. Scratched: KURSAAL - abnormal blood count.
