Prior to the start of the Race Meeting, a track inspection was held, which comprised of Jockeys, Trainers, a Veterinary Surgeon, the Race Meeting Track Manager and a Member of the Stipendiary Board and the track going was declared to be good to soft after steady rainfall. Heavy rain fell consistently prior to the running of Race 1. MOULINA jumped awkwardly outwards. HITHER GREEN jumped awkwardly losing three lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. Jockey Jordaan was charged with a contravention, in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight of the horses MISS MALBEC (Race 1) and IMPIMPI (Race 2) confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer, which resulted in a change of rider for both horses. Jockey Jordaan signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. ANNELINE and MISS MALBEC were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. The Club's Medical Officer stood down Jockey Jordaan on medical grounds. NHLAVINA raced fitted with alumites in front and unshod behind. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed, as per normal procedure.
AFTER THE RUNNING OF THIS RACE THE JOCKEY'S LODGED A PROTEST AND A PROTEST PANEL WAS CONVENED TO HEAR THEIR GROUNDS. EVIDENCE WAS TAKEN FROM TWO JOCKEYS, TWO TRAINERS, AND THE RACE MEETING TRACK MANAGER. DUE TO HEAVY RAIN FALLING AFTER THE INITIAL TRACK INSPECTION THE TRACK HAD DETERIORATED AND THE GROUNDS FOR PROTEST WERE THAT THE TRACK HAD NOW BECOME INCONSISTENT WITH POOR VISIBILITY FOR ALL RIDERS. THE PANEL AFTER HEARING ALL THIS EVIDENCE WAS OF THE OPINION THAT THE TRACK HAD BECOME UNSAFE AND AS A RESULT THE REMAINDER OF THE MEETING WAS ABANDONED.
