The start of this race was delayed as the Jockeys expressed concern about an area of grass discolouration approaching the 600m. After consultation with the Jockeys, an agreement was reached that all riders would race off the inside rail to avoid this area of concern. NEW CALEDONIA was restless in the stalls. Trainer Woodruff will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before its next engagement. MADIBA SHUFFLE jumped awkwardly losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. IMPIMPI and MR CASANOVA were reluctant to load. Trainers Kotzen and Crawford will be advised to have their geldings re-schooled before their next engagement. Jockey Ashby, the rider of HEELAGAINSTTHEHEAD, reported that his saddle slipped back shortly after the start. SUMMER SKY and NEW CALEDONIA were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: NEW CALEDONIA - returned with blood in the right nostril (injured in starting stall). Scratched: CHOSEN PATH - not eating up. COUNT DU CAP - under 12 days suspension. JOZI KING - not eating up.
