COUNTESS HELEN (*J Mphanya) and HAWKER TYPHOON (A Mgudlwa) lost 1 length, respectively. LUCY LU (S Moodley) was restless in the stalls and lost 3 lengths. Trainer L Forbes was advised to re-school. At the 1100m, LUCY LU (S Moodley) ducked out sharply. ABIA (R Danielson) was hanging in from the 300m. BLUE SCHOOL BABY (R Fourie) shifted out at the 300m. In view of the performances of BLUE SCHOOL BABY (R Fourie) (13.95 lengths and 53/20 in the betting) and LUCY LU (S Moodley) (7.00 lengths and 37/20 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainers S J Snaith and L Forbes were requested to report back, respectively, on the condition of BLUE SCHOOL BABY and LUCY LU on return to stables. Jockey E Ngwane reported GREEN DREAM (5.55 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning MAJESTY RHEA, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this filly is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority with effect 20.08.2020 - 18.10.2020. Trainer Y Govender was advised. Jockey A Mgudlwa appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his ride on HAWKER TYPHOON. In this regard, his attention was drawn to, in particular, his decision to race wide around the turn approaching the 500m, and the extent of the vigor of his ride in the straight. Jockey Mgudlwa explained to the Board that he had raced into the straight wider than he preferred due to HAWKER TYPHOON holding the bit awkwardly and racing with an awkward inward head carriage. He further explained that thereafter, he elected to allow HAWKER TYPHOON to balance up and run on under a hands ride as this filly was finishing its race off strongly. However, once he moved up to CANTATA CHOIR, the winner, that filly gave another kick and despite him changing his hold and using his crop in the concluding stages, HAWKER TYPHOON was unable to race past CANTATA CHOIR. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey A Mgudlwa which was corroborated by the patrol films of this race. Jockey A Mgudlwa's attention was, however, drawn to the Rules pertaining to the reporting of certain circumstances in races and reminded of said obligations. CANTATA CHOIR (W Kennedy) the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer O Mhlamvu acting on behalf of Trainer Gavin van Zyl advised (SC). Apprentice G Pieterse (4kgs) was the rider of AU REVOIR (reserve runner - advised 11h07/17.08.2020). Apprentice J Mphanya (1.5kgs) replaced Apprentice J Gates on COUNTESS HELEN (advised 07h17/19.08.2020). AU REVOIR raced fitted with blinkers (advised 08h28/19.08.2020) and with her tongue tied down (advised 07h14/19.08.2020).
