THE FIFTH WAVE (D Schwarz) and TWELVE OAKS (*P Mxoli) were slow losing one length. EL' ZARA (C Maujean) raced wide around the turn and into straight Apprentice L J Ferraris reported EMERALD TIARA returned with a mouth injury. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine filly Jockey P Strydom reported that PROMISE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck the horse SHEER TALENT more than 12 times with his crop in the entire race. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (16) and the fact that SHEER TALENT went on to win the race. Consideration was also given to Jockey S Khumalo's clean record as far as this Rule and Guideline are concerned and a penalty of R1000 was imposed. SHEER TALENT (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P F Matchett advised (DR). EMERALD TIARA raced without a tongue tie (declared 20 August 2020 at 08H42). SHEER TALENT: Jockey S Khumalo weighed out at 53,4kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight. VET: EMERALD TIARA mouth injury.
