The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in Race 2. EDICT OF NANTES jumped awkwardly losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. BILLKOOL raced in Club Colours. Jockey Herholdt reported that the saddle on BILLKOOL slipped backwards and sideways in running, which resulted in Jockey Herholdt being unable to fully assist his mount and he eased the colt out of the race. Jockey Cele was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline C, in that he struck the horse CARDIFF CASTLE (AUS) more than three times on consecutive strides in the latter stages. Jockey Cele signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. Jockey Khathi, the rider of BIRDS EYE VIEW, dropped his left side rein in the latter stages, which he regained shortly thereafter. PHOENIX RISING steadied off the heels of BIRDS EYE VIEW, which rolled in slightly at about the 900m. EDICT OF NANTES was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. The Ownership of EDICT OF NANTES should read: Mayfair Speculators (Pty) Ltd. (Nom: Mr D L Brugman); and the Colours are: Emerald green, yellow stars, black sleeves, and cap. Vet: CARDIFF CASTLE (AUS) - returned making an abnormal respiratory noise. BILLKOOL - inspected post race and no abnormalities were detected, but the saddle had slipped back. Scratched: WILLIAM THE BRAVE - off feed.
