The start of the race was delayed as a result of LILY GRAY, LUNA SEA and SU-PA-SUTA being restless in the starting stalls and having to be removed to be checked by the Veterinary Surgeon and thereafter declared fit to race. YOU BOLT, NOT A WORD and BEE MY HONEY were slow into stride. LILY GRAY, LUNA SEA and SU-PA-SUTA were restless in the stalls. PEARL EMBLEM was very restless in the stalls and got her head caught under the front gates, removed and was withdrawn. DEEP DOWN REBEL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. RUSSIAN GIRL was hanging out throughout. In view of the performances of YOU BOLT, NOT A WORD and SU-PA-SUTA, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine DEVON BELLE. Apprentice Mbhele, the rider of KINGSVIEW, and Apprentice Mphanya, the rider of FLYING LUXMI, both had satisfactory qualifying rides. In view of the Starter's report concerning PEARL EMBLEM, the starting stall certificate for this mare has been withdrawn until recertified tractable with a companion. LILY GRAY returned post race having cast the left fore shoe. Trainer Crawford and Apprentice Schwarz appeared before the Stipendiary Board and were questioned regarding the riding instructions given for the running and riding of DEVON BELLE. This matter has been adjourned. SU-PA-SUTA raced fitted with alumites both fore and unshod behind. Vet: YOU BOLT, NOT A WORD and DEVON BELLE - nothing obvious detected. SU-PA-SUTA - not striding out left fore. RUSSIAN GIRL - speedy cut inside left hind. Scratched: PEARL EMBLEM - injured head in starting stalls and was withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon.
