ROY'S AMBASSADOR (AUS) was slow into stride. PUTCHINI was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer van Wyk was questioned with regard to the improved performance of PUTCHINI compared to this gelding's performance on the 28 August 2016. He explained that this gelding had raced handy from a wide draw and as a result compounded in the latter stages. He was further of the view that PUTCHINI is better suited to the polytrack surface. Mr van Wyk's attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to in and out running of horses. PHOEBUS was squeezed out shortly after the start. KING JOFRY was pulling hard in the early stages, difficult to restrain. ROY'S ROLL'S ROYCE (AUS) over-raced in the early stages. Jockey Forbes, the rider of BLACK JAGUAR, and Jockey De Melo, the rider of FULLY CHARGED, reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in running. KING DJANGO became cramped and was eased approaching the 500-metre mark. Apprentice Moodley, the rider of KING JOFRY, accidentally dropped his crop at approximately the 200-metre mark. SAN JULIAN BAY returned post race having cast the right hind shoe. FULLY CHARGED raced with steel shoes and not alumites as carded. Vet: BLACK JAGUAR - nothing obvious detected. BLUNDERBUSS - speedy cut right hind. FULLY CHARGED - coughing. Scratched: NUNTIUS - not eating up.
