THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ZULU CITATION (L Hewitson) lost one length. b) GOLDEN ARCHER (S Randolph) was restless in the stalls and lost one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 300m, WINTERTIME (A Marcus) was carried out by INNOGEN (*M Zuma) which shifted out away from the crop marginally. b) At the 200m, GIRL FROM IPANEMA (*K Strydom) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the heels of FREESTATE STAR (S Veale) which rolled out. c) Apprentice K Strydom (GIRL FROM IPANEMA) appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol films of the race and advised to ride his mounts out to the end of the race so as to leave no room for query by the Stewards. d) WINTERTIME (A Marcus) was hanging in, in the concluding stages. e) Jockey L Hewitson reported that he felt something amiss with ZULU CITATION (20.35 lengths, 16/1 in the betting) in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) WINTERTIME (A Marcus), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Odendaal advised (SC).
