HIT IT RUNNING and ICED UP were slow into stride. ICED UP was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. GINGER QUILL, over-racing, shifted out slightly approaching the 1200 metre mark carrying NEWTONS LADY and CAUSEWAY BAY outwards. This resulted in CAUSEWAY BAY, who was over-racing, became momentarily cramped approaching the 1000 metre mark. PEGGY'S DREAM was pulling hard in the early stages, difficult to restrain. CAUSEWAY BAY was hanging in, in the straight. Jockey Forbes reported that he felt something amiss with HIT IT RUNNING. In view of the performance of NEWTONS LADY, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. UNDER THE ROSE raced without cheek pieces. Vet: HIT IT RUNNING - coughed. NEWTON'S LADY - nothing obvious detected.
