THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SPEED OF NIGHT (M Byleveld) was restless in the stalls. b) NASTY HARRY (C Orffer) jumped slow, losing one length. c) OUTOFTHEORDINARY (G Cheyne) was restless in the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) DOUBLE ALLIANCE (D Ashby) was held up for a clear run for a number of strides at the 450m. b) ICON KING (*X Jacobs) was hanging out from the 400m. c) NATURALIST (G van Niekerk) had to ease and switch out to continue its run approaching the 200m. d) Jockey M Byleveld, the rider of SPEED OF NIGHT, reported that this gelding did not act in the soft underfoot conditions. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. e) MOON ROCK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PD Reeves was advised.
