THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BREAK THE SILENCE (C Zackey) was stubborn loading. b) GODSWOOD (W Kennedy) was stubborn loading and thereafter slow into stride. b) OWNYOURFATE (D Schwarz) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In view of the performance of JACALAC (P Strydom), (distance 10,75 lengths, betting 57/20), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer C Spies was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. b) Jockey R Simons reported that he felt something amiss with SPRY in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) GODSWOOD (W Kennedy) raced green. d) Apprentice C F Dicken (FIXED 'N FIRM) accidentally dropped his crop at the 300m. e) GANG LEADER (*L J Ferraris) hung out from the 300m and thereafter in the concluding stages, BREAK THE SILENCE (C Zackey) which raced green was carried in marginally by GANG LEADER (*L J Ferraris) which rolled in. f) GANG LEADER (*L J Ferraris), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
