THE STARTER REPORTED A) BENICARLO was slow away and lost 1 length. B) HUMOUR ME was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED A) FIREVIEW (*Y Ramzan) overraced in the early and middle stages. B) After constant encouragement BENICARLO (L Mxothwa) failed to muster speed and commenced to give ground to the field from the 800m. As a consequence, Jockey L Mxothwa did not persevere with his ride from the 400m. In view of the performance of BENICARLO (distance 20.90 - betting 17/2) the Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. C) Jockey L Bester (BOLD STRIKE) appeared before the Board and was advised to ride his mounts out to the end of the race with suitable determination and vigour, so as to leave no room for query from the Stewards. D) The winner MIO GRANDE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer A C Greeff advised (LM). THERE WERE NO JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES THERE WERE NO RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED A) PARA HANDY abnormal respiratory noise. B) BENICARLO not striding out left fore.
