This Race was delayed at the request of the Operator. MIGHT AS WELL and SHINE BRIGHT were slow into stride. PARISIENNE CHIC jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. Apprentice Hewitson reported that he felt something amiss with MYTHICAL MAGIC in running and did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. Stable Employee Mtwezi was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this filly on return to stables. Apprentice Kotzen, the rider of MIGHT AS WELL, and Apprentice Sakayi, the rider of JACKIE'S JOY, rode satisfactory qualifying rides. Apprentice Lerena, the rider of GOLD SHADES, rode an unsatisfactory qualifying ride. MONARCH AIR was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. When questioned regarding the improved performance of this filly, Trainer Nieuwenhuizen explained to the Board that in this filly's run on the 17th of September 2016 she had raced wide and without cover, and in his opinion she was better suited to racing with cover. He further added that this filly may be better suited to the Vaal racecourse. Trainer Nieuwenhuizen has undertaken where possible to race this filly over a similar course and adopting similar tactics in future. WENDISH raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind. CAT'S WHISKERS raced without cheek pieces. Vet: MYTHICAL MAGIC - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. CAT'S WHISKERS - mild post race distress.
