The start of this Race was delayed due to DRURY LANE spreading a shoe leaving the parade ring which had to be refitted before this mare proceeded to the start. NOT A WORD lost one length. SEE THE SEA and BLACK CASHMERE were slow into stride. DIAMOND IN THE SKY and SEE THE SEA were restless in the stalls. ROY'S RAKARA and WELL DRESSED were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Naidoo was questioned with regard to the improved performance of ROY'S RAKARA, the winner. Mr Naidoo explained that when this filly races from the front, she appears to over-race and compounds in the latter stages. He was further of the opinion that ROY'S RAKARA is better suited to race with cover and to race slightly off the pace as she had today. The Board noted his explanation and advised Mr Naidoo to race this filly in a similar manner in the future. Apprentice Godden has now ridden his 40th winner and will therefore claim 1.5kg apprentice allowance from the conclusion of tonight's meeting until the conclusion of the race meeting at which he rides his 60th winner. Jockey Delpech reported that SEE THE SEA was not striding out freely in running. CHILL BABY CHILL (AUS) was pulling hard in the early stages, difficult to restrain. WELL DRESSED was steadied off the heels of CHILL BABY CHILL (AUS) at approximately the 250 metre mark and thereafter was switched in to obtain a clear run. At approximately the 1200 metre mark BLACK CASHMERE shifted in resulting in NOT A WORD clipping the heels of BLACK CASHMERE and as a result BLACK CASHMERE lost his action and was forced to ease out of the Race. In view of this, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine BLACK CASHMERE. Apprentice Schwarz signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention in that, as the rider of BLACK CASHMERE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to NOT A WORD at approximately the 1200 metre mark. He was suspended for a period of 10 days. NOT A WORD raced with alumites in front and steel shoes behind. IRE DE FIESTA raced with cheek pieces. Vet: SEE THE SEA - nothing obvious detected. BLACK CASHMERE - nothing obvious detected. Stable Employee von Niebel acting for Trainer van Zyl was advised to report back to the Stipendiary should she find anything amiss with this filly on return to the stable.
