The start of this Race was delayed due to the starting stalls having to be repositioned. THE SMELL OF RAIN was slow into stride. EMBRASIATIC commenced to over-race in the middle stages. In the concluding stages SAMARRA took an awkward stride. SEATTLE LADY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: INTRIGUING LADY (AUS) - coughing. Scratched: SAVE THE DAY - bruised left front hoof. SPAN DIE SEILE - Stewards permission. Following the running of Race 7 an electric storm moved in over Turffontein. After an hour's delay, the International and South African riders highlighted their concerns regarding their safety when considering the close proximity of the lightning. It was the unanimous decision from the Riders not to continue racing. The Stipendiary Board in consultation with Phumelela management agreed to abandon races 8 and 9. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked and their identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed.
