During the loading process, TRIP TO HEAVEN spread its off fore shoe. The runners, which were already loaded, were extricated from the starting stalls whilst the Course Farrier attended to TRIP TO HEAVEN before the loading process could resume. This caused a delay to the running of this race. TRIP TO HEAVEN lost two lengths. BULL VALLEY and MOOFEED (AUS) were stubborn loading. TAR HEEL stumbled shortly after the start. At approximately the 300m Jockey van der Merwe was dislodged from BUCKLAND, which collapsed. Leaving the 200m TALKTOTHESTARS was momentarily inconvenienced between MOOFEED (AUS) and JOAN RANGER, which was hanging in from the 250m. TRIP TO HEAVEN and BULL VALLEY were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. TAR HEEL raced equipped with cheek pieces. Vet: BUCKLAND - collapsed and died at the 300m mark. Sample collected for analysis by the laboratory. Referred to Onderstepoort for post mortem.
