OVERSHADOW jumped awkwardly inwards, made contact with CHEVAUCHEE and thereafter was slow into stride. Jockey Strydom reported that BARITONE did not stride out freely in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. Jockey Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with OVERSHADOW in running. CAPTAIN'S FLAME had a tendency to over-race when racing wide without cover in the early stages. BARITONE was brushed outwards by HORIZON, which shifted out to obtain a clear run at about the 300m. At about the 250m FIFTY CENTS, which was hanging out, shifted out and crossed WINTER PRINCE, which was forced to check, losing position. Thereafter FIFTY CENTS continued to shift out, carried CAPTAIN'S FLAME and HORIZON outwards. Approaching the 150m HORIZON switched inwards to continue its run, brushed CAPTAIN'S FLAME inwards onto the heels of CHEVAUCHEE becoming unbalanced and was forced to ease. The Stewards called a race review, which was followed by Jockey van Niekerk, the rider of HORIZON, the 2nd placed horse, and after reviewing the patrol films, Jockey van Niekerk lodged an Objection against the winner, FIFTY CENTS, on the grounds of interference in the latter stages. The Board, after considering the evidence heard and reviewing the patrol films, was of the opinion that but for the interference, HORIZON would not have finished ahead of FIFTY CENTS and therefore overruled the Objection. The Judges' result was allowed to stand and Jockey van Niekerk's deposit was refunded. An Inquiry will be opened regarding the reported interference. FIFTY CENTS and HORIZON were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: BARITONE - returned not striding out. OVERSHADOW - inspected post race and no significant findings were detected. WINTER PRINCE - returned having cast the left fore shoe.
