NIGHT LOCK lost three lengths. Trainer Eudey was advised to re-school this gelding. SILVER ROSE, placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Approaching the 300-metre mark LUCKY LUCIANO was switched in and improved to the inside of CAPTAIN AT SEA in a tight gap between SILVER ROSE and CAPTAIN AT SEA. Thereafter SILVER ROSE shifted out slightly resulting in LUCKY LUCIANO becoming cramped, easing for a number of strides, and switching in to obtain a clear run. A race review was called by a Stipendiary Steward with regard to the above incident which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Assistant Trainer Steyn, acting for Trainer Tarry, on behalf of the second placed horse, LUCKY LUCIANO, against the winner, SILVER ROSE, on the grounds of interference at approximately the 300 metre mark. The Board, after viewing patrol videos from the various angles, taking into consideration the interference suffered by LUCKY LUCIANO and the distance between these two horses at the finish, upheld the Objection and amended the Judge's result. The deposit was refunded. Approaching the 150-metre mark WARFARER, hanging in, shifted in slightly. Simultaneously SILVER ROSE shifted outwards resulting in CAPTAIN AT SEA becoming cramped and easing. SAN JULIAN BAY was pulling hard in the early stages, difficult to restrain. In view of the performance of SKY ARROW, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey de Melo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he misused his crop by striking SILVER ROSE more than three times on consecutive strides in the latter stages.
