THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GIMME ACES (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In view of the performance of THE BLACK MANX (M Byleveld) (Betting 9/4 : Distance 5.20) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. b) I DID WHAT I DID (D Ashby) raced wide on the bend. c) LITE OF MY LIFE (C Orffer) was momentarily held up and had to switch in at the 400m. d) THE BLACK MANX (M Byleveld) and SHORT CUT (J Bekker) brushed at the 300m. e) Leaving the 100m, SHORT CUT (J Bekker) had to check when awkwardly placed close to the hindquarters of I DID WHAT I DID (D Ashby) which shifted in. Thereafter Jockey Bekker was unable to ride SHORTCUT to the finish. Trainer PAW Botha called for a race review and after viewing all the evidence and taking into account the distance between the two horses at the finish, took no further action. Jockey D Ashby was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of I DID WHAT I DID he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to SHORT CUT at the 100m. The Stewards took into account Jockey Ashby's clean record with regards to this Rule and accordingly he signed an Admission of Guilt and was given the penalty of a warning. f) GIMME ACES, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
