The start of this Race was delayed due to the withdrawal of ISLAND VIEW. STORM RULER was slow losing one length. STAFFAN and HANDSOME HENRY (AUS) were slow losing three lengths. ISLAND VIEW was injured in the stalls. The Starting Stall Certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. He was suspended for a period of seven days until recertified tractable. STAFFAN over-raced in the early and middle stages and compounded in the straight. Jockey Brown reported that he felt something amiss with STAFFAN in running. Jockey van der Merwe was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline C on the use of the crop, in that he struck the horse URBAN MYTH more than three times on consecutive strides in the concluding stages. Jockey van der Merwe signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined.
