MIDNITE ZONE cast the left fore shoe on the way to the start, which the farrier was unable to replace. In consultation with Trainer Crawford and the Veterinary Surgeon, permission was granted for the right front shoe to be removed and MIDNITE ZONE raced unshod, the gelding was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon, causing a delay. Jockey Strydom requested the Veterinary Surgeon to check THE CONGLOMERATE (AUS) at the start. SILICONE VALLEY shifted out sharply away from the crop and was straightened at the 200m. In view of the performance from ABASHIRI, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the gelding on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. LEGAL EAGLE and CAPTAIN AMERICA were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. MIDNITE ZONE raced unshod in front. Vet: MIDNITE ZONE - examined at the start and declared fit to race unshod in front. THE CONGLOMERATE (AUS) - examined at the start and declared fit to race. MIDNITE ZONE - returned in mild post race distress. ABASHIRI - returned not striding out.
