ROY'S GOLD and SPEEDJET lost one length. NOT A WORD lost three lengths. MODERNISTA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Approaching the 50-metre mark a tiring BELLA MIESQUE became cramped for galloping room and was forced to ease momentarily. This resulted in NOT A WORD having to be switched in. In view of the performance of SPEEDJET, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. Jockey van Rensburg reported GAVEA GIRL was not striding out freely in the latter stages. At approximately the 200 metre mark ROY'S EMBLEM was forced to ease off the heels of a tiring GAVEA GIRL for a number of strides. Apprentice De Gouveia signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention, in that as the rider of SPEEDJET, he was unable to weigh out at the carded weight as confirmed in his engagement with the trainer resulting in a change of rider. SPEEDJET raced without the tongue tie. NOT A WORD raced with alumites in front and steel shoes behind. Vet: GAVEA GIRL - coughing. SPEEDJET - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: TANAMI, CAPTAINS MOLL and QUEEN'S BEACH - change of venue. ESPERANZA FIRE, NORTHERN CHORUS and RECONSIDER BABY - eliminated.
