The start of the 5th Race was delayed as a result of the delay to the start of the 4th Race as well as the Objection following the running of the 4th Race. SEVENTH PILLAR was slow into stride. BIG SI and JOSHUA'S ANSWER both lost 1 length. MY PAL AL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. SEVENTH PILLAR over-raced in the early stages and was hanging out and, despite the effort of Apprentice Arries, shifted out to the outside running rail approaching the 800-metre mark and thereafter raced wide. SABER'S BEADS over-raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 1200 metre mark MY PAL AL shifted in slightly carrying COUNT VON COUNT inwards resulting in SABER'S BEADS being cramped and having to be eased. Jockey Mgudlwa's right foot slipped out of the stirrup iron on BIG SI near the 1200 metre mark, which he regained shortly thereafter. COUNT VON COUNT was hanging out in the straight. Jockey van Rensburg reported SON OF SILVER took no interest in running. In view of the performances of SABER'S BEADS and BIG SI, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. Jockey Godden signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that, as the rider of ROY'S DONKEY (AUS), he was unable to weight out at the carded weight as confirmed in his engagement with the trainer resulting in a change of rider. Jockey Forbes signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he misused his crop by striking JOSHUA'S ANSWER more than three times on consecutive strides in the latter stages. The Medical Officer reported that Jockey Godden was suffering from dehydration. Vet: SABER'S BEADS, SON OF SILVER and BIG SI - nothing obvious detected. ROY'S DONKEY (AUS) - coughing. Scratched: AGUSTINA - insufficient work.
