The start of the 4th Race was slightly delayed due to the short gap between races. APOLLO'S GIFT lost 1 length. PHOEBUS lost 2 lengths. ICE RUN was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Rivalland was questioned regarding the improved performance of ICE RUN, was compared to this gelding's previous run on the 13.1.2017. Mr Rivalland explained that the drop in the merit rating and the weaker calibre of the field today had, in his opinion, accounted for the improved performance. Mr Rivalland's attention has been drawn to the Rules pertaining to "in and out running" and the future performances of ICE RUN will be monitored. PHOEBUS was hanging in throughout. In view of the performance of PHOEBUS, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this horse. HALLO MR shifted in near the 800 metre mark resulting in COLMANT becoming cramped for galloping room for a short distance. Jockey Kennedy, the rider of HALLO MR, appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to allow more room to his inside when shifting ground in races in future. ICE RUN, hanging in, shifted in near the 150 metre mark carrying HALLO MR inwards slightly. Thereafter HALLO MR was carried in slightly by ICE RUN shortly before the finish. A race review was called by a Stipendiary Steward regarding this incident and after reviewing the patrol videos from the various angles and the distance of 0.50 lengths between these two horses at the finish took no further action. Jockey Samuel reported GHURKA CHIEF was not striding out freely in running. In view of the performance of DELICIOUS DAMOWIN (AUS), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey Mgudlwa signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he misused his crop by striking QUINTELLA to the extent of causing injury by leaving whip wheals on the right hind quarter. Vet: PHOEBUS and GHURKA CHIEF - nothing obvious detected. DELICIOUS DAMOWIN (AUS) - lame right hind, cut into right fore. QUINTELLA : Whip wheals right hind quarter.
