THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BIG SUZE (C Orffer) and MAYFERN (O Noach) jumped slow, losing one length. b) POWER GIRL (G Cheyne) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) WHAT A JEWEL (D Ashby), which pulled hard in the early stages, clipped the heels of JOLLY JOSEPHINE (M Byleveld) approaching the 1600m. b) THE VOW (R Fourie) had to be steadied approaching the 100m when tightened for galloping room between WHAT A JEWEL (D Ashby) and DUCHESS OF STATE (M Yeni). c) Jockey G van Niekerk, the rider of WINTER'S AWAKENING, reported that, approaching the 100m he felt something amiss and, after this mare took an awkward stride, he eased her out of the race. DUCHESS OF STATE (M Yeni), which was racing behind WINTER'S AWAKENING (G van Niekerk), had to take evasive action and switch in, brushing MAYFERN (O Noach).The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine WINTER'S AWAKENING. d) Trainer GS Kotzen was charged with a contravention of Rule 39.7.5 in that he failed to vaccinate the horses SILVER TIARA (Race 5) and THIRD RUNWAY (Race 7) against Equine Influenza in accordance with the program of vaccinations as published from time to time in the Racing Calendar. Assistant Trainer D McLachlan, acting on behalf of Trainer GS Kotzen, signed an Admission of Guilt and Trainer Kotzen was fined R 1000,00. e) MISS D'ARAY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
