The start of this Race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race. Jockey Strydom reported that he felt something amiss with DOLPHIN in running and did not persevere with his ride from the 200m. Trainer Sage was requested to report back on the condition of DOLPHIN on return to the stables. When questioned regarding his ride on DOLPHIN, Jockey Strydom explained to the Board that shortly after the start this gelding was bumped by RONNIE ROCKET. Thereafter he elected to follow ISPHAN as the pace horse, however, when following ISPHAN, DOLPHIN took a number of awkward strides and felt uncomfortable in running and he elected to switch out to continue his run. At the 200m he felt something severely amiss with DOLPHIN and this gelding gave him the impression that he was going to collapse and in order to safeguard the welfare of the horse, he eased DOLPHIN out the race. Jockey Strydom further added that, in his opinion, the track conditions could also have contributed to this gelding's performance. Apprentice Mjoka reported that ALPINE GLACIER made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. RONNIE ROCKET was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. ALPINE GLACIER raced equipped with a tongue tie. Vet: DOLPHIN - examined post race, no significant findings. MAGIC - abnormal respiratory noise. ALPINE GLACIER - no respiratory noise detected post race. Scratched: FIDELIO - coughing. VULCAN - insufficient recovery time.
