The start of the 8th Race was delayed as a result of the delay in the previous race and the 30-minute gap between these races. ON YOUR LIFE lost 1 length. PERCY JACKSON was restless in the stalls. TOUCH WOOD repeatedly kicked the back gates, was removed from the stalls and reloaded. ACE PILOT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Gordon was questioned regarding the improved performance of ACE PILOT was compared to this gelding's previous run on the 21.12.2016. Mr Gordon explained to the Board that the fitting of blinkers and the weaker calibre of the field tonight had, in his opinion, accounted for the improved performance. Mr Gordon has undertaken to race this gelding equipped with blinkers in his immediate future engagements. His explanation was noted. In view of the Starter's Report concerning TOUCH WOOD, the starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn until recertified tractable with a companion. MEGREZ was switched out to obtain a clear run approaching the 300 metre mark inconveniencing TOUCH WOOD. PERCY JACKSON shifted in slightly approaching the 300 metre mark, resulting in ACE PILOT having to be eased and switched out. Thereafter PERCY JACKSON shifted out resulting in ACE PILOT having to be steadied and switched in to obtain a clear run. ON YOUR LIFE raced green. In view of the performance of TOUCH WOOD, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. MEGREZ did not race fitted with cheekpieces. Vet: TOUCH WOOD - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: PLAY THE LAFF (AUS) - bruised left fore hoof. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at tonight's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at tonight's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed.
