JEAN'S SONG cast the left fore shoe on the way to the start, which the farrier replaced causing a slight delay. STELLARSTONE broke open the front gates which were immediately reclosed and the gelding was taken out, checked by the Veterinary Surgeon, and then reloaded causing a slight delay. WAITINGFORTONIGHT jumped awkwardly inwards, bumped FIRE WALKER inwards which lost one length and thereafter was slow into stride. In view of the Starter's report regarding STELLARSTONE, Trainer Crawford will be advised that this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn. In view of the performance from STELLARSTONE, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the gelding on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. Trainer Crawford has been requested to report back to the Board on the gelding's condition on its return to the stables. When questioned regarding the improved performance today from FIRE WALKER compared to the gelding's previous two races when it finished 10.90 lengths behind the winner on 5 November 2016, and 10.35 lengths behind the winner on 31 December 2016, Trainer Puller could not offer the Stewards a suitable explanation but stated the gelding had been working well at home. During the period around this gelding's last race on 31 December 2016 a number of his runners, despite working well at home, had raced disappointingly and as a result thereof he had rested FIRE WALKER and was of the opinion that there may have been a virus in the stable yard. A number of his horses were scoped over this period and the Stipendiary Board has advised Mr Puller that his Veterinary Treatment Register will be inspected. The Board reviewed the gelding's two previous runners and noted that on both occasions FIRE WALKER had been ridden to the satisfaction of the Board. Trainer Puller also told the Stewards that this gelding had been equipped with blinkers for the first time today. The Board has adjourned to review Mr Puller's treatment register and conclude this investigation. FIRE WALKER and REBEL'S BURST were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Jockey Cele rode STELLARSTONE. The Club's Medical Officer stood down Jockey Orffer for the remainder of the day on medical grounds. Vet: STELLARSTONE - inspected post race and no significant findings were detected. SPRING GOLD - returned with blood in the mouth.
