The start of this Race was delayed due to the track inspection which was conducted after race 3. CINNAMON SLEW slow losing two lengths. TIMBER HITCH was hanging out from the 800m. SANTA MONICA was hanging in from the 200m. Jockey Fortune, the rider of BUBBA'S DOLL, accidentally dropped his crop at the 200m. In the concluding stages SUBTLE FORCE had to ease for a number of strides when awkwardly placed between HALF A BAR, which rolled out marginally, and KINGS CREEK, which shifted in. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board with regards to this incident which was followed by Objections being lodged by the Trainer on behalf of the fourth placed horse, SUBTLE FORCE, against both the second placed horse, HALF A BAR, and the third placed horse, KINGS CREEK, on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. The Objection Board, after reviewing the patrol films of the race and hearing the evidence put forward by the connections of all horses, was of the opinion that but for the interference, SUBTLE FORCE would have finished in front of KINGS CREEK and therefore upheld this Objection. The Board was of the opinion that SUBTLE FORCE would not have finished in front of HALF A BAR and therefore overruled this Objection. JUBA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: CINNAMON SLEW - not striding out left hind. BUBBA'S DOLL and TIMBER HITCH - abnormal respiratory noise. Scratched: TRELLIS - ineligible, winner 9 March 2017, Vaal racecourse. ADVANCE TO GO - inflammation right hind joint. MPHUMI - no transport available. SHALA - abnormal temperature and off feed. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked and their identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed.
FOLLOWING THE RUNNING OF RACE 4, CONCERNS WERE EXPRESSED REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THE TRACK CONDITIONS AROUND THE TURN. DUE TO THE CONCERNS ALREADY EXPRESSED BY THE JOCKEYS REGARDING THE BACK STRAIGHT, IT WAS DECIDED TO MOVE THE LONGER DISTANCE RACES TO THE OUTSIDE TRACK AND RUN RACE 6 AS SCHEDULED OVER 1000 METRES UP THE STRAIGHT ON THE CLASSIC TRACK. HOWEVER, IT WAS ESTABLISHED THAT THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT RUNNING RAIL TO FULLY ENCLOSE THE 1600 METRE OUTSIDE TRACK AND IN THE INTERESTS OF THE WELFARE OF HORSE AND RIDER, IT WAS DECIDED IN CONSULTATION WITH THE OPERATOR TO ABANDON THE REMAINDER OF THE RACEMEETING.
