Apprentice Arries has now ridden his 20th winner and will claim a 2.5kg allowance. TROJAN HARBOUR (AUS) and AMOR ARDIENTE both lost 1 length. CONCEALED SECRET and QUEEN OF SWING both lost 2 lengths. FLAMBOYANT and VALCAR were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Inside the 150 metre mark, FLAMBOYANT shifted in away from the crop, making contact with VALCAR and carrying VALCAR inwards to a point approaching the 50 metre mark. Thereafter VALCAR shifted in independently away from the crop resulting in TROJAN HARBOUR (AUS) being carried inwards shortly before the finish. A race review was called by a Stipendiary Steward regarding the above incident, which was followed by a race review called by Jockey Marcus, rider of VALCAR and Mr van Zyl, trainer of the third placed horse, TROJAN HARBOUR (AUS). After viewing the patrol video, Trainer van Zyl decided to take no further action. Thereafter an Objection was lodged by Jockey Marcus, rider of the second placed horse VALCAR, against the winner FLAMBOYANT, on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the closing stages. The Board after viewing the patrol video, hearing the evidence and after considering the distance of 0.10 lengths between these two horses at the finish was of the opinion that but for the interference VALCAR would have beaten FLAMBOYANT, and therefore upheld the Objection and amended the Judge's result. The deposit was refunded. Apprentice Arries signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention in that, as the rider of FLAMBOYANT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to VALCAR in the closing stages. He was suspended for a period of 7 days. CONCEALED SURPRISE raced green. VALCAR raced with his tongue tied down. Vet: SUNRISE TO SUNSET - Epistaxis, 60 day suspension. RAW COURAGE - coughing. Scratched: TRULY VAR - insufficient recovery time - raced 16.4.2017.
