THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) For a short distance, leaving the 800m MATTHEW THE KING (A Domeyer) raced in restricted galloping room between SPY (S Mbhele) and DESTRUCTION BOY (O Noach). b) AL WAHED (G van Niekerk) which was hanging in in the straight, had to be straightened at the 150m. c) In view of the performance of MATTHEW THE KING (A Domeyer) (Betting 4/1 : Distance 4.50) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. d) Jockey R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the correct carded weight on the horse WADI RUM, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer. Jockey Khathi signed an Admission of Guilt and was given the penalty of a warning. e) Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M and Guideline C) in that he used his crop more than 12 times in the entire race and more than 3 times on consecutive strides in the latter stages whilst riding the horse AL WAHED. Jockey van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R 1500,00. f) FIRE WALKER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GR Puller was advised.
