The start of this Race was delayed due to the previous Race delays. PLYMOUTH ROCK was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Shortly after the start DUZI MOON became cramped for galloping room between PODCAST and ANTIGONUS and as a result was squeezed out, losing position. ANTIGONUS and STAND BY ME (AUS) were pulling hard in the early stages, difficult to restrain. In view of the performances of PODCAST, PHILOS and STAND BY ME (AUS), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. WHAT A BLAST was baulked for a clear run at the 300m and thereafter at the 150m. PETER PIPER was baulked at the 350m, switched out and thereafter was baulked at the 150m and was forced to switch in at the 100m. Approaching the 100m PLYMOUTH ROCK shifted in slightly carrying ARROW'S MARK inwards. Jockey de Melo, the rider of PETER PIPER, appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to the tactics employed by him for today's Race. He explained that PETER PIPER was a horse that liked to race handy. Today, having jumped well from the 8 draw, the horses on his inside had also jumped well and had held their positions, not allowing him to push for a handy position without racing very wide. He had no option other than to drop his mount out. Once entering the straight, he had been baulked for a clear run and had to switch on a few occasions. His explanations were noted. The Medical Officer reported Jockey Dillon stood down after the running of this Race due respiratory tract infection. Vet: PODCAST, PHILOS and STAND BY ME (AUS) - nothing obvious detected.
