FOREST PRINCE was fractious in the stall, shortly thereafter POLAR ROCK became fractious and both horses were taken out. FOREST PRINCE was reloaded, causing a delay, and POLAR ROCK was withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon. STOCK BROKER jumped awkwardly losing three lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. In view of the report from the Starter concerning FOREST PRINCE, Trainer Snaith will be advised that FOREST PRINCE's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn. Trainer Reeves will be advised to have POLAR ROCK re-schooled before its next engagement. Over the final 200m BENFONTEIN was carried in slightly by FOREST PRINCE, which raced green and was hanging in. Jockey van Niekerk, the rider of BENFONTEIN, called for a race review and after reviewing the patrol films lodged an Objection. The Board after hearing the evidence and reviewing the patrol films was of the opinion that it was not conclusive that but for the interference BENFONTEIN would have finished ahead of FOREST PRINCE and therefore overruled the Objection and allowed the Judges' result to stand, and the deposit was refunded. Jockey van Niekerk, the rider of BENFONTEIN, was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop, in that he used his crop with excessive frequency whilst riding the horse BENFONTEIN in the latter stages. Jockey van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. FOREST PRINCE and BENFONTEIN were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: BENFONTEIN - returned bleeding in the mouth. Scratched: THE SILVA FOX and ZEN SPIRIT - suspected virus. POLAR ROCK - injured in starting stalls, withdrawn at the start.
