Before the loading process began, it was established that the numbers on the top of the starting stall gates were in the incorrect position and had to be corrected. Thereafter SEVERINO broke through the front gates, was restrained by the rider, examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded which caused a delay to the start of this Race. Trainer Nassif was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement. KEANAN'S ROCK lost two lengths. JUST AN AFFAIR injured its mouth in the stalls. JUST AN AFFAIR was removed from the stalls, examined by the Course Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded. VIVA ESPANA was very restless in the stalls. This filly's behaviour was partly responsible for SEVRINO breaking open the front gate and JUST AN AFFAIR being injured in the stalls and therefore her starting stall certificate has been withdrawn. VIVA ESPANA proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a handler. Trainer Maroun was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future, she may be suspended. In view of the Starter's report with regard to VIVA ESPANA, this filly was suspended for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable in the starting stalls. VIVA ESPANA may not be presented for repassing during this period. KEANAN'S ROCK shifted both ways away from the crop from the 300m. At approximately the 150m, MAN THE FORT was awkwardly placed on the inside of SOLDAT, which was hanging in. KEANAN'S ROCK was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. FLEXIBLE FUGITIVE (AUS) was ridden by Apprentice Ngcobo. Jockey Murray was offered a contract to ride in Hong Kong and was due to leave on Friday the 19th of May 2017. However, there were flight complications and his flight was brought forward to Wednesday the 17th of May 2017. Permission was granted to replace him on his carded mounts. ZEIDAS DREAM raced unshod. Vet: JUST AN AFFAIR - mouth injury. MAN THE FORT - coughing. FLEXIBLE FUGITIVE (AUS) - abnormal respiratory noise. Scratched: FLYING RUSSIAN - no valid Starting Stall Certificate. ROMEO'S REVENGE - abnormal temperature.
