Due to the low temperatures experienced on the Highveld at this time of the year, particularly at night, the Board agreed to allow the jockeys an extra 0.5kg at the scale in order to allow them to wear warmer clothes under their racing silks from race 5 onwards. AMSTERDAM was stubborn loading. Assistant Trainer Azzie was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement. BARACAH and ELEVENSES lost 1 length. When questioned regarding his ride on AMSTERDAM in the concluding stages, Jockey Strydom explained to the Board that this gelding had travelled well through the race, however, had begun to tire at the 300m. Approaching the 200m he had to switch out to continue his run but at this point AMSTERDAM was completely fatigued. Jockey Strydom was further questioned regarding his riding style and he explained to the Board that he had ridden AMSTERDAM previously and he had responded best to a quiet ride, however, at this point in the race he had needed to try something different to keep AMSTERDAM going as he was extremely tired and adopted a more vigorous riding style. The Board have adjourned to review AMSTERDAM'S runs on the 1st and 11th of May 2017. WILD HORIZON shifted both ways away from the crop from the 300m. WILD HORIZON and HENRY HIGGINS were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: DETONATION - not striding out right front. Scratched: WILD BRIER - wound hind limb.
