THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) MINISTER WITHOUT (O Noach) turned around shortly after the start and refused to gallop.
b) Fair start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) The stewards reviewed the start with regard to MINISTER WITHOUT (O Noach), drawn in stall gate 1, and established this gelding had turned around shortly after the start and thereafter had refused to gallop. This gelding had not been impeded and was therefore declared a runner.
In view of the report from the starter regarding MINISTER WITHOUT (O Noach) and in view of this gelding's history, this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion on two occasions, one of which must be on a race day. Suspension dates: 27/09/2020 to 03/10/2020 inclusive). MINISTER WITHOUT may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
b) Approaching the 400m, T'CHALLA (R Fourie) had to steady when close to the heels of I DID WHAT I DID (D Ashby), which rolled out. Thereafter, I DID WHAT I DID (D Ashby) continued to hang out and shifted out gradually until being straightened at the 200m. Between the 150m and 100m, ALPHA PAPPA (G Behr) and LITE OF MY LIFE (K de Melo) shifted in gradually, which resulted in LITE OF MY LIFE (K de Melo) being brushed by I DID WHAT I DID (D Ashby) which rolled out slightly at the 50m. As a consequence of this brush, I DID WHAT I DID (D Ashby) was turned outwards and LITE OF MY LIFE (K de Melo) became severely tightened for galloping room between ALPHA PAPPA (G Behr) and I DID WHAT I DID (D Ashby) in the later stages. The Stewards reviewed the finish and after viewing all the evidence, took no further action.
c) Jockey R Fourie was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck T'CHALLA more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey Fourie signed an admission of guilt and was fined R 1500,00. In determining penalty, the Stewards took into account the number of strikes over the permissible level as well as Jockey Fourie's recent record with regards to contraventions of this Rule and Guideline.
d) LINE OF POWER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GW Ennion was advised. (TJ)
