THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LADY CATHERINE (*X Jacobs) jumped awkwardly, losing one length. b) IRIS (G Cheyne) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, IRIS (G Cheyne) shifted in sharply to secure a position on the inside running rail. b) At the 400m, ARCTIC ICE (D Ashby) had to steady when tightened for galloping room on the inside of EMMA'S GIRL (R Fourie), which was carried in by WINTER FURI (G van Niekerk), which raced green and rolled in. GALLIC GIRL (O Noach) and QAARAAT (R Khathi) which were following, had to steady as a consequence. c) At the 250m, QAARAAT (R Khathi) was carried out by ARCTIC ICE (D Ashby), which had been shifted out to secure a run on the outside of WINTER FURI (G van Niekerk), which rolled out slightly. d) At the 150m, ARCTIC ICE (D Ashby) shifted in away from IRIS (G Cheyne), which had shifted in away from the crop and was straightened. WINTER FURI (G van Niekerk), EMMA'S GIRL (R Fourie) and GALLIC GIRL (O Noach), which were racing to the inside of ARCTIC ICE (D Ashby), were tightened for galloping room at the 100m as a consequence. e) Jockey A Andrews was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he struck WHAT A FLIGHT more than 12 times in the entire race (13). Jockey Andrews signed an admission of guilt and was fined R 750,00. f) IRIS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised.
