THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BAYBERRY (G van Niekerk) and DUCHESS OF BOURBON (J Bekker) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Passing the 1800m, CROME YELLOW (G Cheyne) threw its head up awkwardly while being steadied to take up a position behind LOVE HAPPENS (R Fourie). b) In the concluding stages, HERODOTUS (C Zackey) was carried in gradually by BAYBERRY (G van Niekerk) and had to steady when close to the heels of BLACK KNAP (M Byleveld). This resulted in Jockey Zackey being unable to ride this gelding to the finish. c) Jockey K de Melo, the rider of CEDAR MAN, reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding and he did not persevere with his riding from the 250m. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. d) BLACK KNAP, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised. (CvA) e) BAYBERRY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
