RIO DE LA PLATA and FORBIDDEN DUEL were slow into stride. GREAT RUMPUS lost one length. BANNER HILL threw his head up before the start was effected and was slow into stride. CAPTAIN SPLENDID was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Jockey Domeyer, the rider of HELDERBERG BLUE, accidentally dropped his crop approaching the 200 metre mark. HELDERBERG BLUE was carried out slightly by HERMOSO MUNDO approaching the 300 metre mark. Jockey Juglall reported that he felt something amiss with ROCKETBALL in the latter stages. Approaching the 100 metre mark, CAPTAIN SPLENDID shifted out abruptly, making contact with and carrying HERMOSO MUNDO outwards approaching the 50 metre mark. A race review was called with regard to the above incident which was followed by an objection lodged by a Stipendiary Steward on behalf of HERMOSO MUNDO, placed second, against the winner, CAPTAIN SPLENDID, on the grounds of interference in the closing stages. After viewing the patrol videos from the various angles, the Board were of the opinion that but for the interference HERMOSO MUNDO would have beaten CAPTAIN SPLENDID. Therefore the Board upheld the objection and the Judge's result amended. Jockey Strydom signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention, in that as the rider of CAPTAIN SPLENDID, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to HERMOSO MUNDO in the closing stages. He was suspended for a period of 10 days. Jockey Marcus signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he failed to fulfil his riding engagement on HELDERBERG BLUE which resulted in a change of rider. Jockey van Niekerk replaced Jockey van der Merwe on RIO DE PLATA as there was no other jockey available at the weights. Vet: BANNER HILL - cut into left hind. ROCKETBALL - broke down left fore. Euthanased on humane grounds.
