The front gate for FUJIN was slow to open. OUR EMPEROR jumped awkwardly inwards losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. The start of this Race was reviewed regarding FUJIN in stall gate three and after reviewing the patrol films, the Board established that the front gate was slow to open and therefore declared the gelding to be a non-runner. When attempting a narrow run approaching the 400m, ROKATENDA made contact with DESERT LARK on two occasions. Thereafter ROKATENDA rolled out and made contact with the hindquarters of DESERT LARK at the 200m. Jockey van Niekerk was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline C on the use of the crop, in that he struck DESERT LARK more than three times on consecutive strides over the final 150m. Jockey van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. The Board, when coming to a suitable penalty, took into consideration his previous contraventions regarding this rule. LIQUID DYNAMITE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. FUJIN raced fitted with alumites in front and unshod behind. Vet: OUR EMPEROR - returned making an abnormal respiratory noise. Scratched: FUJIN - declared to be a non-runner.
