THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SACRED IBIS (*J Gates) was restless in the stalls and lost 1 length. b) TWICE THE FLIGHT (A Arries) lost 2 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) SACRED IBIS (*J Gates) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) Jockey D De Gouveia reported that THE BAYOU (6.40 lengths) did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Jockey A Marcus signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse TILLIEANGUS more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Marcus, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey A Marcus struck the horse TILLIEANGUS, the distance over which and manner in which Jockey A Marcus used his crop and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. d) The All Clear to this Race was delayed whilst the Stewards satisfied themselves as to the correctness of the placings. e) MATTERHORN (L Hewitson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
