NEXT VAAL RACE MEETING IS TUESDAY 18 JULY MAIDEN PLATE (FILLIES & MARES)

Shortly after the start was effected, the false start siren went off without it having being activated by the Starter. All the riders immediately reacted to the siren and pulled up their mounts with the exception of Jockey Lerena, the rider of QUEEN ANNE, and Jockey Zackey, the rider of ALL DONE, who attempted to pull up their horses but were unable to control them and they galloped the course. QUEEN ANNE and ALL DONE were examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently withdrawn. The rest of the field returned to the start, were examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded. In light of the fact that all the jockeys reacted to the siren and made an attempt to pull up their horses, the Stipendiary Board in the interest of racing, decided to treat this as a false start even though the Starter had not activated the siren and it had gone off accidentally. SHEPHERD'S DELIGHT and FREE THE WIND were slow into stride. Jockey van der Merwe reported that POKEMON SHUFFLE did not stride out freely, made an abnormal respiratory noise in running and he did not persevere with his riding from the 400m. Apprentice Habib, the rider of SHEPHERD'S DELIGHT, and Apprentice Hewitson, the rider of CHAPATI, reported that they felt something amiss with their mounts in running. Assistant Trainer Azzie was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of CHAPATI on return to stables. At approximately the 400m, ROYAL BALL, which was hanging out, had to ease momentarily when awkwardly placed on the heels of ONE DOLLAR MASSAGE. MOON DANCER was hanging from the 200m. QUEBEC QUEEN was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. KICK BUTT and ONE DOLLAR MASSAGE raced with a tongue tie on. Vet: SHEPHERD'S DELIGHT - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. CHAPATI and MIRACLE AT DAWN - examined post race, no significant findings. POKEMON SHUFFLE - abnormal respiratory noise. Scratched: QUEEN ANNE and ALL DONE - bolted the course. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked and their identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed.
