A FALSE START WAS CALLED AFTER STALL GATE 9 OPENED SIGNIFICANTLY SLOWER THAN THE REST OF THE FIELD. ALL HORSES WERE RESTRAINED BY THEIR RESPECTIVE RIDERS, RETURNED TO THE START, EXAMINED BY THE COURSE VETERINARY SURGEON, DECLARED FIT TO RACE AND RE-LOADED. THIS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED A) NOVEMBER STORM was slow away and lost 2 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED A) Jockey S Fortune reported that he felt something amiss with ROCK THE COT in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning ROCK THE COT, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer G Paddock was advised. B) Jockey M Byleveld reported that DIVINE LAW did not stride out freely in the running. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. C) After being slow away, NOVEMBER STORM (X Ndlovu) failed to muster speed and commenced to give ground to the field from the 800m. Thereafter, Jockey X Ndlovu reported that NOVEMBER STORM did not stride out freely in the running and did not persevere with his ride from the 600m. The Course Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. D) At approximately the 150m, FOR LUCK SAKE (C Maujean) shifted out away from the crop. E) The winner VAR'S BOY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Trainer G D Smith advised (PD). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES A) HECTOR HEATHCOTE raced equipped with alumites in front, steel shoes behind (08:07 - 28/09/2020).
