MASTER'S SPIRIT was squeezed out shortly after the start. FIRE WALKER jumped awkwardly inwards, stumbled, and made contact with AL WAHED. The Farrier had to attend to the hind shoes on PEN-CHAN in the parade ring, which resulted in the gelding proceeding to the start late. Trainer Sands was charged with a contravention in that he presented PEN-CHAN in the parade ring shod with alumites in front only, when it was declared to race with a full set of alumites, which resulted in the farrier fitting hind shoes on PEN-CHAN causing a delay. Jockey Orffer reported that WIND RIVER did not stride out freely in running. Jockey Cheyne reported that he felt something amiss with PEN-CHAN in running. Trainer Sands was requested to report back to the Stewards on this gelding's condition on its return to the stable. NORTHERN CORNER was brushed by PEN-CHAN, which was brushed inwards by CORTADA at about the 700m. MASTER'S SPIRIT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. MASTER'S SPIRIT raced without a tongue tie. Vet: WIND RIVER - returned not striding out on the right fore and right hind. MASTER'S SPIRIT - returned coughing. Scratched: WEEKEND WARRIOR - under medication.
