THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO THE DELAY IN THE PREVIOUS RACE AND ARAPAHO LIFTING HIS RIGHT FRONT SHOE EN ROUTE TO THE START WHICH WAS ATTENDED TO BY THE COURSE FARRIER. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HERTOG (*K Matsunyane) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) When afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which may have accounted for the poor performance of LADY OF STEEL, Jockey G Lerena explained to the Board that in the early stages this filly had raced in restricted room on the inside of runners and was of the opinion she may have over reached due to this. Thereafter in the straight she had come under pressure relatively early and had stayed on one paced. He further added, that in his opinion, the filly would be much better suited to further. Trainer J J van Vuuren was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of LADY OF STEEL on return to stables. b) EDEN ROC (L Hewitson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
