AMAZON KING was slow into stride. Jockey Simons reported that PURE BLONDE took no interest in running. Jockey Zackey reported that SPORTING MONARCH did not stride out freely in running. CAPTAIN ALDO and ROMI'S BOY were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CAPTAIN ALDO on 2 September 2017, Trainer Gray explained to the Board that Jockey Khumalo had attempted to tuck this gelding in from a poor draw over the Turffontein Inside Track 1200m. He was of the opinion that CAPTAIN ALDO performs best when allowed to stride freely in his races. MACHISMO raced equipped with alumite bar shoes in front, alumites behind. Vet: PURE BLONDE - not striding out left front. SPORTING MONARCH - examined post race, no significant findings. MACHISMO - mild post race distress; scalped left hind.
