The start of this Race was delayed due to the starting stalls not being positioned timeously on the racetrack. DANTE'S ROCK and YARRAMAN were slow into stride. BLACK MARINER lost one length MIDNIGHT lost three lengths. THE PRIVATE was difficult to load. GRADUATE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. YARRAMAN was cramped shortly after the start. DRAGEDA shifted in near the 1000 metre mark resulting in FIRST CRUSADE being cramped and steadied. Jockey de Melo, the rider of DRAGEDA, appeared before the Board with regard to the above incident and was advised to take more care when shifting ground in races in future. Near the 300 metre mark, GRADUATE racing green and hanging out, shifted out away from the crop, carrying SOVEREIGN SOLDIER outwards. As a result, TARANAKI racing on the outside of SOVEREIGN SOLDIER, was inconvenienced for a short distance. Jockey Marcus, the rider of GRADUATE, appeared before the Board with regard to the above incident and was advised to react sooner to correct his mounts when shifting ground in races in future. BLACK MARINER was eased and switched inwards for clear run, off the heels of a tiring L' OPTIMISTE, near the 250 metre mark. Jockey Wright reported that he felt something amiss with L'OPTIMISTE in running. In view of the Starter's report concerning THE PRIVATE, this gelding's starting stall certificate is withdrawn until re-passed tractable with a companion. TARANAKI raced with a tongue tie. Vet: L' OPTIMISTE - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: CANADIAN CHAMPION - Stipes permission - Relocated to Zimbabwe. Transport schedule misunderstanding.
