The start of the 6th Race was delayed as a result of Apprentice Balloo, the rider of FLIGHT MODE, having to be checked by the Course Medical Officer after being struck on the head by his mount en-route to the start. He was assessed, declared fit to ride and proceeded to the start. GINGER BISCUIT jumped inwards which resulted in Apprentice Gouveia's right shoulder making contact with the front gate. Thereafter GINGER BISCUIT lost 2 lengths. FLIGHT MODE jumped awkwardly losing 1 length. QUINTELLA lost 1 length. WE'RE WATCHING YOU was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Apprentice Moodley reported that he felt something amiss with VARGRAVES in running. Apprentice de Gouveia reported GINGER BISCUIT was not striding out freely in running. ETERNAL ICE became cramped and was forced to ease for a number of strides at approximately the 100 metre mark. FLIGHT MODE over-raced in the early stages and raced wide into a handy position on the latter part of the bend. In view of the performance of FLIGHT MODE the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. GINGER BISCUIT did not race with cheek pieces. QUINTELLA raced fitted with cheek pieces. The Medical Officer reported that Apprentice Balloo stood down with left temporal trauma. Vet: GINGER BISCUIT - not striding out right fore. FLIGHT MODE and VARGRAVES - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: TIDE IS TURNING - no suitable rider.
