The start of this Race was delayed due to COOL RUNNINGS (K de Melo) having to be re-saddled at the start. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) KAROO LARK (S Veale), TWICE THE FLIGHT (A Arries) and DIVINE HUGH (*J Jacobs) lost 1 length, respectively. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) SOVEREIGN SOLDIER (D Dillon) and WISHFUL GIRL LINN (*L Ferraris) over-raced in the early stages. b) MASTER OF DESTINY (T Godden) and JUSTFORTHEEPENNY (*T Gumede) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) Whilst racing in tight quarters, BLACK FOX (A Marcus) and SOVEREIGN SOLDIER (D Dillon) came together and brushed on a number of occasions between the 450m and the 250m. d) At the 250m, DIVINE HUGH (*J Jacobs) which had improved into a narrow run on the inside of MASTER OF DESTINY (T Godden) which rolled in, was bumped out by TECHNO CAPTAIN (M Yeni) which was hanging out from the 300m. e) In the concluding stages, FIGHT SONG (W Kennedy) and TECHNO CAPTAIN (M Yeni) came together and brushed. f) Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse KAROO LARK more than 12 times in the entire Race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Veale the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey S Veale struck the horse KAROO LARK the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Veale used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. g) DIVINE HUGH (*J Jacobs), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
